Essential Oils That Reduce the Risk of Breast Cancer

Did you know that some essential oils have the ability to identify improperly written DNA, while others can destroy that DNA, and still others re-program the DNA correctly? Some oils can actually do all three themselves. Being able to do just one, two or all three is quite astounding, isn't it? Besides these incredible properties they can also pass through the blood-brain barrier because even those essential oils with the largest molecules still have molecules that are many times smaller than necessary to pass through that barrier.

Do you see why I believe some of the best things God has given mankind are essential oils? When the wise men brought baby Jesus the gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh they were, in essence, providing Jesus' parents with a pharmacy. Frankincense is immuno-stimulating and antitumoral while myrrh is antiviral, antiparasitic, an analgesic and also antitumoral. These oils could protect baby Jesus from the plagues and illnesses of that day and then, when they were gone - Mary and Joseph could purchase more with the gold. If you ask me, these are pretty great baby gifts for any time in history!

Are there oils that can help reduce the risk of breast cancer and many other cancers? That answer is not black and white because, as I have said in other articles, everyone is unique and acts and reacts differently. However, generally speaking there are essential oils that help keep immune systems strong and others that suppress tumors - so, the answer is, in many cases, "yes"!

I believe most of you are aware that everyone has cancer cells within their bodies. The problem doesn't lie in that fact. It is when those cells are allowed to multiply because a person's immune system has been compromised, weakened and therefore functioning poorly that tumors form.

In addition to eating a healthy diet, drinking plenty of pure water and exercising on a regular basis, the following oils can strengthen immunity and repair DNA in the cells.

Cistus (Cistus ladanifer) enhances immunity and immune cell regeneration.

Frankincense (Boswellia carteri) stimulates the hypothalamus and pituitary to amplify immunity.

Oregano (Origanum compactum) is one of the most powerful antimicrobial essential oils. It helps fight off viruses, bacteria, fungal infections, and parasites allowing our bodies to concentrate on staying healthy.

Cumin (Cuminum cyminum) amplifies immunity and DNA repair in addition to being antiseptic, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory.

Clove (Syzygium aromaticum) is one of the most powerful antioxidants of all essential oils and prevents cellular DNA damage. It is very important in cancer prevention to protect against cell oxidation. Additionally, it is antimicrobial, antiseptic, antiviral, anti-inflammatory and antifungal.

There are many more essential oils that have these same qualities, but this gives you an idea of some of the most powerful. These oils are packed with a huge wallop in every drop so you don't need to use them in large quantities. They last well in hot climates as long as they are not exposed to light and you keep them bottled tightly to keep them from evaporating.

Anyone who has received a cancer diagnosis might want to consider adding Frankincense or myrrh to their traditional treatment since they contain antitumoral properties. Frankincense is somewhat easier to work with because it is has less resin than myrrh. Of course, one should always check with their doctor first before adding any essential oils or starting any alternative treatment. This is because the oils could react negatively with other treatments and/or medications or they could nullify the benefits of traditional medicine.

To provide the greatest protection one should use only the highest grade essential oils available. For me that means Young Living oils. They have a great track record and have pretty much set the standard for all other essential oils. As with any high quality product, these small bottles of oils are not cheap. But, remember - they do go a long way. Young Living has combined many of the oils that stimulate the immune system into a blended oil called ImmuPower. You can check it, and the company, out at http://www.youngliving.com.

My prayer is that some day we will wipe out cancer; but until that day, essential oils offer great protection against cancer and can offer help and hope for those who have been diagnosed with the disease.

Much of the information on the list of oils came from "Essential Oils Desk Reference, fifth edition". It is compiled and published by Life Science Publishing. You can purchase the book online through several vendors, including Amazon.

10 Most Important Facts About Chemotherapy That Your Oncologist May Not Tell You

The Internet is full of articles about chemotherapy. That said, there are still some facts that you may not know about chemotherapy. Here is a small attempt to share with you some real facts and experiences about chemotherapy:

1. Depending on the stage of the cancer, chemotherapy is administered in stages. If a patient is detected with cancer, he or she may be advised to go in for sessions of specific durations. In the case of my aunt, she was advised 8 sessions of chemotherapy with a gap of 21 days between each session. Before every session, a blood test is done to make a note of any changes in the count of white blood cells. The blood test is also useful in taking a note of the effect of chemotherapy on the liver or any other parts of the body.

2. For every session, a different blood vein is used for administering injections.

3. After a chemotherapy session, the blood vein used for administering injections becomes damaged and becomes harder. They also become black and can be seen from outside.

4. Once used, a blood vein is not useful for the next session as it becomes harder.

5. If surgery of your left side breast is done with the removal of lymph nodes then the left hand cannot be used for giving chemotherapy or for taking blood test. This is another drawback. This is due to the removal of lymph nodes, and in some cases may cause the swelling of hand.

6. Due care has to be taken while giving chemotherapy to the patient. For example, the patient must not move from the bed, as the needle may move inside and there are chances of the drug to start flowing outside the vein under the skin. This damages the skin and makes it swollen.

7. A patient experiences weakness after every chemotherapy session for a period of 4-5 days. Typically, the 3rd and the 4th day are the days when the patient experiences more weakness.

8. If the right hand is administered a chemotherapy injection, you would experience pain on that hand.

9. Typically, hair loss is seen between the 2nd and 3rd session. Before hair loss, the scalp becomes very sensitive and pains when you sleep on a pillow. The best option is to cut or trim your hair before chemotherapy.

10. Hair is typically lost in a cluster. The hair becomes sticky and gets detached from the scalp before falling.

Breast Cancer Diet To Include Cruciferous Vegetables

More reason to eat those veggies! Women who follow a breast cancer diet and eat lots of cruciferous (broccoli, Brussels sprouts, bok choy) veggies have a greater chance of living longer and have less chance of their cancer recurring according to a large new study. It seems the more veggies the better.

Experts from the American Cancer Society estimate there will be almost 300,000 cases of cancer of the breast in the US this year. Nearly 40,000 patients will lose their lives to the disease.

The work included almost 5,000 Chinese survivors of breast cancer who were aged 20 to 75 years old who had been diagnosed in 2002 to 2006. They completed detailed questionnaires on dietary intake when the study started, and then again at the 18-month and 36 month point. The subjects were split into five groups based on their cruciferous veggie intake.

At about the five year point after diagnosis, those ladies in the top 20% (150 gms of cruciferous vegetables a day) had a 42% less chance of dying from the disease, and have a 58% lower chance of dying from any cause in comparison with those who had the lowest intake (under 54 grams per day).

Women in the top 20% were also nearly 20% less likely to experience a recurrence of their cancer.

The team of researchers also looked at other things that can impact breast cancer returning and survival rates - including how old you are, the stage of your cancer, your treatment, how active you are and other factors in your diet.

The good news is that it's very simple to add 150 grams of vegetables to your diet... and you might even like them. One cup of cooked cauliflower or broccoli or the more exotic mustard greens cabbage, kale and good old Brussels sprouts all have just about 150 grams per serving.

This research isn't the first time experts have suggested that eating these delicious veggies might help patients with breast cancer - it is one of the biggest however. Encouraging as the work is, it does not prove that cruciferous veggies made the difference. Those who eat this way might have other healthy habits (or advantages) that weren't measured by the study.

Also, Asian diets are quite different to the average western one we eat here in America. Some of the popular cruciferous veggies common in Chinese diets include turnips, bok choy and other greens. And Asians do eat more veggies overall than are in most Western diets.

So why are veggies so beneficial?

They contain large levels of compounds known as glucosinolates. These change into isothiocyanates and Indoles when ingested and have been found to have lots of anti-cancer properties - at least in the laboratory.

If you're worried about your chances of getting breast cancer, do what you can to reduce your risk. While there are factors like age and genetics that you can't change, there are plenty of things you can do to help yourself including following a breast cancer diet. You should also aim to keep your weight in the healthy range - being overweight or obese brings up your risk of breast cancer. Be more active on a regular basis as evidence continues to point to this as cutting breast cancer risk. You'll also want to limit your alcohol intake (not more than 1-2 drinks a day), and discuss the risks and benefits of birth control pills and hormone replacement therapy after menopause with your healthcare team.

A Breast Cancer Cure Alternative With Graviola Extract

Breast cancer is a disease in which malignant cells form (cancerous) in breast tissue.

The breast is made up of lobes and ducts. Each breast has 15 to 20 sections called lobes, which have many smaller sections called lobules. Lobules end in dozens of tiny bulbs that can produce milk. The lobes, lobules, and bulbs are linked by thin tubes called ducts.

Anatomy of the female breast: They show the nipple and areola on the outside of the breast. Also shown are the lymph nodes, the lobes, lobules, ducts and other parts of the interior of the breast.

Each breast also has blood vessels and lymph vessels. The lymph vessels carry an almost colorless fluid called lymph. The lymph vessels lead to small organs called lymph nodes. Lymph nodes are small structures shaped bean found throughout the body. They filter substances in a fluid called lymph and help fight infection and disease. Clusters of lymph nodes near the breast in the axilla (under arm), above the collarbone and chest.

The most common type of breast cancer is ductal carcinoma, which begins in the cells of the ducts. Cancer that begins in the lobes or lobules is called lobular carcinoma and is most often found in both breasts than other types of breast cancer. Inflammatory breast cancer is a rare type of cancer for which the breast is warm, red and swollen.

Call your doctor if you notice changes in the breast. You can use the following tests or procedures:

Physical exam and history:An exam of the body to check general signs of health, including checking for signs of disease, such as lumps or anything else that seems unusual. Also note the background of the patient's health habits and medical history of your past illnesses and treatments.

Blood chemistry studies:A procedure in which checks a blood sample to measure the amounts of certain substances that organs and tissues released into the blood. An unusual (higher or lower than normal) amount of a substance can be a sign of disease in the organ or tissue that makes it.

Biopsy:The removal of cells or tissue for a pathologist to look at under a microscope to check for signs of cancer. If you find a lump in the breast, the doctor may need to remove a small amount of mass. Four types of biopsies are as follows:

Excisional biopsy: The removal of an entire mass of tissue.

Incisional biopsy: The removal of part of a lump or a tissue sample.

Core biopsy: The removal of tissue using a wide needle.

Biopsy fine needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy: The removal of tissue or fluid using a thin needle.

If cancer is present tests are performed to study cancer cells.

Alternative medicine to help the breast cancer cure:

The good news is the arrival of graviola extract to the market. The graviola extract is obtained from the leaves of the Graviola tree also known as "Annona muricata". The extract proves to be more potent than dried herbs or capsules which lose the potency of the key ingredients quickly. The extract as popularized by our company is more effective than teas or other types of infusion and is easily assimilated upon digestion.

There are several studies which show that the fame of Graviola as a natural anti-cancer. Scientific studies at Purdue University in Indiana, USA and Japan, have demonstrated exceptional benefits for the treatment of certain types of cancers, especially those located in the lung, breast, pancreas and prostate.

Its effective activity is due to its high content of acetogenins, substances with a Adriomicina like activity, which is used in chemotherapy, but unlike the latter, its action is selective on cancer cells without harming healthy tissue. It is said that the acetogenins is about 10,000 times more effective than Adriamycin.

Graviola contains many enzymes critical to combat different types of cancer: Annomuricina (noni) and Muricatocinas A and B, cytotoxic effects against lung cancer and human cancer cells, as well as ls identified as cancer cells MCF-7. The Annopentocinas A (1) and Anomutacina, efective cytotoxic against pancreatic carcinoma, medullar, liver and colon.

Breast Cancer - Should You Be Concerned If Your Mother Had Breast Cancer?

You, like most women, become anxious when one of the immediate members of your family is diagnosed with breast cancer. And you have a big question in mind - is breast cancer hereditary? This is tantamount to probing if you should be worried about being afflicted with breast cancer, just because your mother happens to be diagnosed with this ailment.

It may be true that when your mother or sister was diagnosed with the Big C in the breast, your risk is greater than any other woman who had no family history of the disease. When your mother had cancer of the breast, your risk can be twice or thrice greater than the general populace. But then this is just an increase in risk, not necessarily meaning that you too will be having the illness.

The cause of cancer of the breast is completely unknown but there had been enough convictions that this mostly occurs by chance. The hereditary factor could be due to genetic make-up.

There are three faulty genes in your system that had been usually linked to breast cancer. If you have one or more of these, you develop a risk of developing this Big C and in some instances ovarian cancer. If you carry one of these, it is likely that you will pass this on to your child. And if your mother had this kind of cancer caused by one of these faulty genes, you have a 50-50 chance of inheriting it. These faulty genes are the culprits why breast cancer occurs in some families. This is referred to as hereditary or familial breast cancer. Not all women who had inherited this faulty gene will be diagnosed with the ailment; this only increases the risk.

Breast cancer is very common to women and it is big possibility that you have a relative with this ailment. The cause may not be due to the faulty genes but the mitigating factor is chance. Most women with history of cancer in the family have the same risk as other women. However, there are some women who have greater hazards.

It is important that you are aware of the different factors that may increase your risk. These mostly pertain to blood relationship. The probability becomes high when many blood relatives are diagnosed with the disease. The younger, below 40 years old, your relative were when diagnosed with the Big C, the higher your chance is. Your relative has cancer in both of the breasts or when breast and ovarian cancer run in the family. A male relative diagnosed with such cancer also increases the possibility.

Because of these risks, you may be very concerned about your possibility of having this illness. Forget about your anxiety of being diagnosed with the affliction. To have peace of mind, see your doctor and undergo tests and assessments. The survival rate is very high when detected at an early stage and of course, when treated immediately.

Stages Of Early Breast Cancer And The Chance of Its Coming Back

A cancer that develops in the breast is known as breast cancer. The ailment can be fatal if it had advanced and is not treated. Early detection can be treated successfully such that the affected person's survival rate is higher. The progress of the disease can be determined through two factors - grade and stage.

Grades of breast cancer

The grade indicates how fast the cancer cells are multiplying. This can range from Grade 1 to Grade 3. A low-grade such as Grade 1 indicates that the cancer growth is slow. On the other hand, a high-grade such as Grade 3 shows the fast spread and growth of the cancer cells. The higher is the grade, the more active the disease is. This can result to the spread of the ailment outside of the breast and into the lymph nodes and armpit.

Stages of breast cancer

When cancer of the breast is suspected, you may be required to undergo ultrasound, mammogram, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and biopsies. The pathology report which is based on the biopsies will summarize the stages of breast cancer. Stages of breast cancer are given numbers I to IV. Stages I, II-A and II-B (lump measuring 2 to 5 centimeters) are classified as early stage. Stage II-B (lump is greater than 5 centimeters), III and IV are advanced stages.

The classification of early stage is based on two factors. First basis is the size of the cancerous lump. The second is the presence of cancer in the lymph nodes. When the lump is less than 2 centimeters and without cancer in the lymph node, it is Stage I.

There are three scenarios for Stage II-A.

First, the lump size is less than 2 centimeters with cancer in the lymph nodes.

Second, the size of the lump ranges from 2 to 5 centimeters without cancer in the lymph nodes.

Third, there is no cancer in the breast but the lymph nodes are positive for cancer.

For Stage II-B, the size of the lump ranges from 2 to 5 centimeters and there is cancer in the lymph nodes. When the size of the lump exceeds 5 centimeters, it will no longer be early stage, rather advanced stage.

There are several features that indicate the chance of early breast cancer recurrence. These are size of the lump, presence of cancer in the lymph nodes, presence of hormone receptors, HER 2 receptors, grade and surgical margin.

The disease has a slim chance of coming back

1. There is a big chance that when treated, the disease will not spread or come back. This is when the tumor is smaller than 2 centimeters.
2. Absence of cancer cells in the lymph nodes.
3. The tumor cells have hormone receptors and you undergo hormonal therapy.
4. Cancer cells are negative for human epidermal growth factor receptor (HER 2).
5. The grade is low.
6. The surgical margin is clear.

The surgical margin is the healthy-looking tissues around the cancer. If there are no cancer cells in these healthy-looking tissues, the surgical margin is clear.

Th Big C is likely to recur

1. The lump is larger than 2 centimeters.
2. Presence of tumor cells in the lymph nodes.
3. The cancer cells do not have hormone receptors.
4. The cancer cells are positive for human epidermal growth factor receptor (HER 2).
5. The grade is high (Grade 3).
6. The surgical margin is not clear.

Early breast cancer is treatable. Although this is a common ailment for women, it will also affect men. Early detection is paramount in surviving this dreaded disease.

Three Keys to Successful Lymphedema Treatment

Lymphedema is an ailment that is commonly experienced by those who have undergone any of the various treatments for breast cancer. The characterizing symptom of this condition is a build-up of lymphatic fluid that can be extraordinarily painful. This condition is such that it requires a carefully thought out medical plan in order to prevent it from becoming debilitating. Lymphedema treatment courses will often consist of three basic parts.

Pain Management

The first, and perhaps most important, component of a successful lymphedema treatment program is pain management. Your doctor should offer you several means of preventing pain as well as methods of coping with it. Prescription pain medication is the most common starting point for this, but there are also a variety of non-medicinal methods by which you can help your body to deal more effectively with the pain associated with your condition. Ask your doctor to describe any non-medicinal methods of pain management during the course of your treatment.

Therapy

Therapy is also an extremely helpful method for receiving lymphedema treatment. A trained therapist will be able to help you manage the symptoms and teach you how to live with your condition. Often times, a therapist will provide therapy in draining the lymphatic fluid that is causing your pain. In other cases, compression and bandaging are effective means of slowing the build-up of fluid and helping to alleviate the discomfort that such build-up is prone to cause. Therapy, then, is a vital part of your treatment plan as it is the primary means for managing lymphedema.

Specialists

Additionally, as doctors and researchers have learned more about this condition, there has been an increase in physicians who specialize specifically in lymphedema treatment. This being the case, you should make sure to speak to your primary doctor about seeing such specialists as they will be able to offer you the most up to date and state of the art treatments that the medical community has to offer. Moreover, a specialist will be able to discuss with you methods of treatment that go beyond management and describe to you precisely what your options might be for more extensive, and effective care.

This is a difficult condition to live with, but there are options for lymphedema treatment that can help you to overcome the difficulties that it causes. Speak with your doctor today about the best course of pain management and therapy available to you, and ask her to refer you to a specialist who can tailor medical care geared specifically to your needs. If you do, you'll be well on your way to overcoming your condition.
